As a Substitute Teacher at The American School of Milan (ASM), you will ensure that students’ education continues seamlessly in the temporary absence of their regular teachers. You will be responsible for executing existing lesson plans, maintaining classroom order, and providing a supportive and structured environment. This role is ideal for dynamic and versatile educators who are committed to fostering academic growth and are capable of adapting to various educational settings.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement lesson plans provided by the regular teacher to ensure continuity in the learning process.
  • Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students’ varying needs and interests.
  • Maintain a disciplined and focused learning environment conducive to learning and free from distractions.
  • Assess and record students’ progress, providing feedback to the regular teacher upon their return.
  • Employ classroom management techniques to handle any disciplinary issues that may arise.
  • Utilize school resources, including technology, to enhance the learning experience.
  • Collaborate with other staff members to ensure a smooth transition for students during the regular teacher’s absence.
  • Promote ASM’s values of diversity, inclusivity, and respect in all interactions with students and staff.


  • Bachelor’s degree in education or relevant field; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Valid teaching certification.
  • Previous experience as a substitute teacher or in a teaching role preferred.
  • Strong classroom management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to adapt to new environments and grade levels.
