This full time position at ASM comes from the belief that quality instructional coaching leads to improved student learning through coaching cycles that involve goal setting, learning, feedback and reflection. The instructional coach will partner with teachers and teams to set goals and to co-plan meaningful and relevant learning experiences which are grounded in evidence-based practices and programs, such as the Science of Reading and spanning from grades EC-Grade 5. The literacy coach furthers professional learning for teachers in alignment with the school’s mission and strategic direction.
Qualifications and Experience
- A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant subject
- Teaching credential/certificate/license
- Training and experience using student centered coaching
- Strong knowledge base of early literacy skills and literacy development
- Experience working in an internationally and linguistically diverse school setting
- Familiarity with best practices in teaching methodologies and resources
- Experience with data-driven assessment tools that facilitate differentiated instruction
- Ability to integrate instructional technology and research skills into the curriculum
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English

Reports to: Elementary Principal
Key Responsibilities
The Elementary Literacy Coach is expected to:
- Build trusting relationships that promote mutual respect and collaborative practices
- Collaborate closely with the Elementary Principal and the Director of Teaching and Learning in the implementation of the literacy curriculum and the development of ongoing professional learning
- Serve as a role model for best practices and the school’s core values.
- Uphold and promote high standards of learning and teaching
- Coach teachers in instructional practices based on the Science of Reading, Writing Revolution and current research on pedagogical practices in literacy
- Maintain open and effective communication with teachers, students and parents
- Facilitate coaching conversations, one-to-one and small group coaching cycles around student learning goals
- Facilitate ongoing analysis of data to guide instructional and assessment practices
- Promote vertical and horizontal alignment and coherence of student learning across grade levels
- Support teachers in the documentation of learning experiences
- Support new teachers in the understanding and implementation of Literacy
- Maintain a strong knowledge base of high-impact instructional practices through personal professional development
