ASM Students Collaborate with Artist Alessandro Etsom to Transform Upper School Patio with Vibrant Mural
Two Grade 8 students, Sidonie B. and Olivia B., through the generosity of Fund for Excellence, have worked for many months to bring an inspiring colorful mural to a large dull wall next to the upper school patio.
The mural is the result of a collaboration between the students, Loop Colors, and local artist Alessandro Etsom. Alessandro has become well-known in the street art world for large iconic pieces that encourage dialogue with the observer. This piece, inspired by concepts of diversity, community, and our environment, will feature a vibrant array of leaves and flowers that come together to reveal connected creatures. By creating a contemporary “Arcimboldo”, Alessandro emphasizes the transformative power of human interaction. With the kind donation of a large colorful array of Loop Colors spray paint, the artist was able to use a vibrant and diverse palette, with each color named after a city around the world.
Alessandro Etsom’s collaboration with Middle School students further enriched the design process. The project is a testament to the power of creativity, collaboration, and a shared vision. A few days ago, he came to the school and asked the art students in middle school for some ideas about what the mural should look like and the messages they believed should be conveyed. In the coming days, art students throughout the Upper School will have the opportunity to spray paint a small part of the mural themselves with the help of Alessandro. We hope this excites you as much as it does for us!
