Introduction: Douglass Benning joined the Department of State in 1996. From 2021 to 2023, he served as the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for the Bureau of Consular Affairs. He has extensive experience in Consular Affairs and has held various positions within the State Department. Mr. Benning graduated from Tulane University with a bachelor’s degree in Political Science. He was born in Augusta, Georgia, is married with two adult children, and is an avid tennis player.

Board Role: A member of the ASM Board of Trustees since 2023. He is serving a term expiring in May 2027.
