Last week, the American School of Milan (ASM) celebrated the inauguration of the Learning Forest with our entire community, marking the completion of a year-long journey driven by strategic vision and innovation. This milestone represents our commitment to sustainability, creativity, and fostering a deeper connection with nature for our nearly 900 students.
The Vision Behind the Learning Forest
The Learning Forest began as a shared dream to integrate nature, play, wonder, and discovery into the daily lives of our students. Spanning 10 meters in width and 80 meters in length, this innovative outdoor classroom redefines learning by blending natural exploration with educational growth. As a non-profit educational institution, ASM is proud to champion sustainability efforts that inspire students and empower the next generation of environmental stewards.
A Partnership for Biodiversity and Innovation
This project exemplifies ASM’s dedication to environmental stewardship, realized through our collaboration with 3Bee, our scientific partner. Together, we are employing cutting-edge tools and innovative strategies to monitor and enhance local biodiversity:

Tracks biodiversity on campus, providing valuable insights into ecological changes.
Polly X Sensors
Four sensors measure air quality, offering data that enriches both scientific inquiry and environmental awareness.
Educational Graphics
Interactive visuals underscore the importance of pollinators and biodiversity conservation.
Wildlife Shelters
Two ladybug shelters and two butterfly shelters support local ecosystems and encourage student interaction with wildlife.
A Day of Celebration and Discovery
During the inauguration, our student ambassadors shared their enthusiasm and knowledge about 3Bee’s innovative technology and the overarching vision of the Learning Forest. This vibrant space will serve as an outdoor classroom, inviting students of all ages to explore, learn, and track biodiversity while engaging in the joy of play and discovery.
