As of July 1st, Wayne Rutherford took the helm as the new Director of the American School of Milan. Announced to the ASM Community in November 2018, Mr. Rutherford was nominated after a rigorous selection process and from hundreds of potential candidates.
The President of the Board of Trustees, Alessandra Piccinino, remarked “Mr. Rutherford has the right leadership capabilities to accompany our School on the trajectory of balanced growth and continuous improvement that we have already commenced. He believes in our mission and values and shares the strategic direction embedded in our plans. We are certain that he is the perfect fit for the next chapter in ASM’s history.”
Mr. Rutherford has previously been Head of School at international schools in Japan, Senegal, and Egypt. He has 19 years of Headship experience and 27 years in education, all abroad. Mr. Rutherford attended Stanford University and holds both a BA and MA from Stanford. Mr. Rutherford is originally from Oregon, where he attended public schools. His wife, Yoshiko is from Japan; their two children attend colleges in Oregon.
