Math and Science

Course Outline
Students in this course will learn through concrete examples and problem-solving situations that will lead to confidence in the abstract. Throughout their study, students will learn investigation skills through science exploration in the laboratory. Students will be assessed on quizzes and tests as well as given performance assessment assignments which allow student to show what they have learned creatively and without the pressure of test-taking. Students will reflect regularly on their strengths and weaknesses and will be given opportunities for review of material that is unclear.

Evaluation

Students will be evaluated using the MYP Subjects Assessment Criteria. Grades will be available to both students and parents via Powergrade. Students will be assessed through both formative and summative assessment. Primarily, formative assessment will consist of homework and classwork assignments and will be recorded on Powergrade under the teacher criterion using a 4 point grade scale. In order to receive a grade of 4, student work must be neat and turned in on time. Tests and projects will make up the summative assessment that will be recorded under the appropriate MYP assessment criteria.
