Pathways to Success 2010 – 2014

Introduction

The American School of Milan’s Strategic Plan was developed through a process by the Board of Trustees, the administration, faculty, staff, parents and outside consultants of gathering information, debating alternatives, setting aspirations and considering ways ASM should evolve to meet our future needs and challenges. This plan is built on our core values: Accountability, Empowerment and Respect, and is truly a shared vision for the future of our school. It has been created by community members working together to understand and describe not only what we want for our school over the next four years, but also what is possible for us to achieve.

Strategic planning is always about the future, but it necessarily reflects both the past and present situation at the school. An important outcome of the recent vigorous planning process is the confirmation that we start from a position of great strength. We have an outstanding faculty and administration and a diverse community of responsible, engaged students. We have world class facilities and infrastructure. We have sound financial health. We are in the fortunate position of being able to aspire to achieve even greater heights.

This plan identifies areas that are priorities for ASM in the next 3 to 5 years and details specific initiatives and action plans that will be undertaken to strengthen and enhance ASM. This plan is a living document and will require continuous review, reflection, and modification. This plan provides the roadmap for the school to move forward. As with any journey to places unknown, we expect roadblocks and will make necessary corrections on the way to our destination.

There are over twenty end results that need to be accomplished during this plan period to achieve our strategic objectives. As key objectives are met, others will be added to ensure continuous improvement and evolution of the strategic plan. The ASM Director, staff and the Board of Trustees are deeply committed to “planning the work and working the plan”, but we need YOUR help and assistance. Ultimately, each and every action in this plan represents our most important priority – to ensure we provide for all of our students a modern and rigorous education that helps them excel in the changing world of tomorrow. Through this plan we are continuing ASM’s evolution as a truly unique and outstanding educational institution in a great international city.
