In the time it takes you to read this article it is estimated that there have been 90,000 photos uploaded to Facebook, 1.3 million emails sent, 100,000 tweets posted on Twitter and 1.4 million searches made on Google. Social media weaves its way into our students’ lives both for educational and social reasons. With this in mind, and with a continued commitment by ASM to empower our students to practice positive digital citizenship, Ms. Wolpowitz and Mr. Reiach presented Social Media Awareness Sessions for Upper School parents during Parent Conference Day. Topics discussed included the avenues for social media, cyber bullying, privacy, and their digital footprint (the virtual trail they leave). Parents were also offered strategies that engage kids in discussion about personal safety and responsible computer use. We look forward to continuing these dialogues and focusing on these and other topics in more depth at future sessions.
