College/University Guidance

The goal of ASM’s college counseling office is to help our students identify the appropriate "fit" for all post-secondary options. College “Fit” is defined as finding an institution that meets the academic, emotional, geographical and financial needs of the student.  This improves a student’s likelihood of graduation from  a chosen college, as well as ultimate success in their chosen field of work.

The college counselor will guide the students towards autonomy and emphasize the following important aspects of the college admission process:

  • Attention to detail and organization (Helping students gain control of applications and deadlines)
  • Self-Knowledge (Helping students to discover and articulate their strengths)
  • Education (Helping students to research all academic programs)

The ASM College Counselor offers direction on the college search, utilizing internet resources, college essay writing, SAT testing, managing application timelines, and other relevant topics.

Additionally throughout the year, Admissions Representatives from universities around the world travel to ASM to meet students. The purpose of their visits is to speak with students about particular colleges and to answer questions about the application process. At this time, students may sign up to receive college admissions mailings, and admissions interviews may also be arranged.

The College Counselors present informational evenings periodically throughout the year at ASM, at which students of any grade level and their families are welcome to attend. Beginning in the spring of the junior year or by request, the College Counselors offer customized university consultation for students and their families; the individualized counseling relationship continues through to the end of the application process. Working together, students, parents and Counselors generate recommendations for prospective universities. The College Counselor also advises the student about a strategy for the process, including required test-taking, college visits, essay writing and presenting oneself, and an overall timeline for the process.

Excellent Results for ASM Class of 2015

ASM is pleased to share the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IB DP) results for the Class of 2015. ASM students obtained an average score of 34 points with 4 students obtaining 41 or more points (out of a maximum of 45 points). These results are well above the world average for overall score and ASM was also above the world average in almost every subject. These results are especially rewarding since, unlike many other schools that offer the IB Diploma, ASM encourages all students to sit for the exam rather than allowing only its top students to participate.

ASM is proud of its graduates and congratulates all the IB DP recipients for these satisfying results. We wish them all the best as they enter their chosen universities around the world.

A special thank-you goes to all of our dedicated faculty who have worked with every candidate up to the very last moment as instructors, cheerleaders and counselors.
