About ASM

A Multicultural Community of Learners
The American School of Milan offers a superior educational experience to an international student body representing more than 35 countries throughout the world. Our program allows children to discover and develop their intellectual potential and achieve personal excellence. Because we take a student-centered approach to education, our teachers know and respect each child as an individual.
Our Primary and Intermediate Schools for children aged 3-10 lay the foundation for learning in a hands-on, discovery program that allows students to master the core curriculum while fostering intellectual curiosity, creativity and good citizenship. Both multiage and same-age classes allow students to make continuous progress in a supportive family atmosphere.

The Middle School Unit expands upon the skills and knowledge acquired in the Primary and Intermediate grades. The curriculum for youngsters aged 11 to 13 is designed to broaden and enhance the educational experience by interrelating the various subject areas studied and incorporating this knowledge into situations outside the classroom. A wide variety of exploratory courses in subjects such as journalism, creative writing, drama, arts and crafts, ecology and gardening, as well as computer robotics, give our Middle School students the opportunity to discover and develop their individual talents and abilities. The Middle Years Program of the International Baccalaureate was introduced for all students in grades 6-10 in August, 2004.
ASM's High School Unit prepares students for the best colleges and universities around the world. Students enrolled in our ASM Diploma Program may apply to American universities both in the U.S. and abroad, while those earning an International Baccalaureate Diploma have access to British, European and American universities. ASM students achieve top scores on their SATs and other external examinations. Recent graduates have attended Harvard, Brown, Columbia, NYU, Stanford, Tufts, The University of California at Berkeley, Cambridge University, Imperial College, the London School of Economics and University College London.

Our spacious library and media center houses a collection of more than 26,000 volumes and state-of-the-art computer laboratories with full Internet access. All Primary and Intermediate classrooms are equipped with networked computers. Students from Grade 6 can connect to the Internet or the ASM Intranet from any space in the school with their required wireless laptop computers. Newly renovated and outfitted laboratories provide opportunities for advanced science instruction.

ASM's academic program is complemented by an extensive extracurricular program, which includes drama, music, art, student government and sports. Athletic facilities include a full-sized gymnasium, tennis courts, and eight acres of playing fields.

Founded in 1962, ASM's suburban campus, situated in northern Italy just six miles from downtown Milan, makes it an ideal location for educational field trips and excursions to historical and cultural sites throughout Italy and Europe.
